SILENT SKY update

SILENT SKY on the horizon

Here's a call-out to all of you who sent in pre-orders for my first book, SILENT SKY. I've had a tremendous response so far.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

If you recall, I said SILENT SKY would be ready February 28th. I tend to motivate myself with deadlines, but I didn't know, at that time, that the Perfect Storm would hit in February. No worries, though, the big waves have subsided. . . .

While riding out the surf, I learned a lot about publishing! I opened my own publishing company, "One Sky Publishing," to publish SILENT SKY and future books. And I am looking forward to being much more knowledgeable about timing and requirements next time I bring a book to market.

In any case, SILENT SKY is now, finally, in the laps of the printers, who have suffered Snowmageddon in the Midwest and been closed for days. This means the delivery of the book to me may be delayed by a week or so.

I then have a LOT of books to sign and package for delivery. So, please be patient with me. I do apologize for any delays. I hope to have your book(s) to you within the next couple of weeks (International will take longer for shipping).

In the meantime, here is a short blurb of the plot line for SILENT SKY.

Charged with defending a woman who has confessed to poisoning her famous televangelist husband, Seattle attorney, Reina Dessiner, soon finds herself battling for her own life, through the streets and skies of the Pacific Northwest. Enlisting the help of a quirky entourage of friends, Reina goes undercover into the multi-million dollar industry of televangelism, where she must take justice into her own hands in a race to save a modern-day savior.

I do want to thank you all for the support and the many kind comments you sent with your pre-orders. If you have not yet ordered, there is still a little time to order your signed, first-edition book. See below.

Keeping it cool
I sat in the parking lot outside Starbucks today drinking my extra-hot cappucino and watching a red-tailed hawk soar over an adjacent field. I have a fascination with all birds, but particularly with hawks.

I've watched hawks soaring at great heights over the Blue Ridge Mountains with no apparent purpose other than to enjoy the thermals. . . I've watched a hawk spot prey from 100 feet up and dive bomb without crashing. . . I've seen hawks lift one wing to bank, curl both wings to "brake," flutter gently to hover, and flap powerfully to climb. They are amazing flying machines. Someday, I hope we can control the wings of our private aircraft in a similar fashion.

Today, this fellow was just coasting around the field when a little bird came out and started attacking him. We've all seen little birds hassle the big birds of prey. I know sometimes the little guys are trying to cause a diversion from their nest, but sometimes it does seem they just attack to attack. I have noticed, however, that the big birds never react. They just keep their cool and flap on, ignoring the viscious little sideswipes.

And that is my lesson-to-self for the day. When attacked by viscious or negative energy, don't let it faze you. Just stay the course, head for clear sky, and flap on.

Have a great day!

I Own the Runway!

I am currently in Mexico for a yoga retreat. Yes, I said yoga. Although I love to fly swift and drive fast and careen a little crazily through life, I also live fully and slowly in the present moment, something that yoga teaches you. This particular retreat is more focused on internal yoga, rather than contorted-body-position yoga. In one of our recent sessions, we were asked to recall a moment that was transformative in some way for us. Many things came to mind, but I decided to tell this story:

During one of my private pilot flight training lessons, I was performing touch-and-gos with my instructor, Marla. It was a sunny Saturday, and the airport pattern at Arlington (KAWO) had become rather busy. I had just landed my 152 and was trying to quickly do the things that were required before adding power and taking off again. It felt like a lot to do (hey, I was still pretty new) and I knew another plane was not far behind me. I must have forgotten something (maybe left the flaps down?) because Marla wouldn't let me add power and go. In a panic, I said to her, "But I need to hurry, someone is right on my tail!"

I'll never forget, Marla turned to me and said, in her inimitable, navy-nurse, gruff way, "No! You don't need to do anything but fly this plane. When you're on the runway, it's your runway. You own it. And everybody else can just damn well go around!"

And to this day, I remind myself of that truth, whether flying or just trying to live my life on my own terms:
I own the runway
and everyone else can just damn well go around if they don't like it.
Of course, some airplanes REALLY own the runway!
And I would love to hear your memorable moments, either on or off the runway . . . .

Today, on my birthday, I have decided to claim the coming year to be a Mustang year. I am naming this year of my life for the famous P-51 . . . yes, perhaps some of you can guess at my age now, but it is something I've never hidden. In fact, I claim that every decade has been better than the last and each year I get better. This is not a personal boast; it is something I think we can all celebrate for ourselves - the beauty and wisdom and grace and humor that comes with age.

So, this year shall be the Mustang year, for "Powerful" 51. A great age to be.
